Our sixth Big Charity Giveback (yes, it’s our sixth already!) was to the Age UK team in York.
Age UK York is an independent local charity which has been working in the local community to help older people for nearly 50 years. They have 100 dedicated staff and over 400 volunteers helping them deliver services and activities for older people in York.
They receive some funding from the national Age UK but they rely on your support to keep serving the older people of York. They are supported by donations from the public, their social enterprises, public sector contracts, income from their charity shops and some charitable grants.
They offer a wide range of services to older people in York to enable them to live better lives. This includes information and advice, benefits and money advice, befriending services, carer respite services, Day Clubs and Home From Hospital support. All of their work is aimed at improving the lives of older people in York. Age UK York encourages older people to speak out about local and national issues. They are there to make more of life in York.
We spoke to Robyn from Age UK York about what he thinks is the most rewarding aspect of their work, here is what he said:
The most rewarding aspect of our work is seeing the difference we make to the lives of older people in York, their families and carers. We work with many older people in York offering a wide range of services including Information and Advice, befriending, carer respite, day clubs and transport home and support after hospital. We know we make a difference because of the comments and support we receive.Robyn from Age UK York
We wanted to treat the team at Age UK York with just a small token of our appreciation, and hopefully the amazing team can enjoy some chocolates and a cup of tea that we have sent as part of our Giveback – their work is hugely appreciated by the local community.
But how can you help?
You can easily donate to Age UK York through their JustGiving page.
If we could all just donate £2-£5 to their donation page, it can make a massive difference and help raise those essential funds.
100% of the donations go to Age UK York, and if you are a UK taxpayer remember you can add Gift Aid, it doesn’t cost you but it can help raise that little bit extra.
Whilst your at home, why not take part in a fundraising activity at home and get your friends and family to donate? Here are a few ideas from Team York Pi Jam:
- Virtual Coffee Morning
- Laps around your garden
- Climb your steps
- Silly haircut
- Grow your beard
Keep an eye out for the next blog post of the other charities who we are supporting.
